I’ve always been a bit of a ‘They Might be Giants’ fan, but since the release of their new album “Here Comes Science” I’m totally enamored.

Here Comes Science is an entirely fun, up beat, educational concept album. With a tracks listing like ‘What is a shooting star’, ‘My brother the Ape’ & ‘I am a Paleontologist’ what’s not to like? Dedicated to the joy of everyone’s favourite subject SCIENCE!!!!

I’ve popped my favourite tune from the album up the top and I hope you enjoy meeting the elements just as much as I did

I am so flipping excited for this! Tintin is one of those series that I was so surrounded by as a child, I can’t really call myself a fan it’s just part of my life. My long love of comics started with French/Belgium comics like Asterix and Tintin well before I was ever introduced to DC or Marvel. My father and I used to read Tintin together when I was very young, he does an impeccable Captain Haddock impression.

Herge’s characters being brought to life by the likes of Steven Moffat & Edgar Wright and with the expert direction of Spielberg. Did I mention Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will be voicing Thompson & Thompson? I really am giddy with excitement for this film.

Billion of blue blistering barnacles! Onward to adventure!

Tank Girl Figurines

So I was quietly thinking to myself earlier today just how much I love the Tank Girl comics. The current Bad Wind Rising series has had me in stitches and pestering my local suppliers as to whether it would be delayed again this week?

My Dad introduced me to Tank Girl via his old British Music Magazines when I was but a wee squidlet, I didn’t really get a lot of it back then but I appreciated the liberal use of swear words, knob gags and military paraphernalia. Never mind, maybe I did get it.

Any whoo, I was thinking about how much I would love a Tank Girl figurine to sit upon my shelves and smile madly down at me. Alas a quick googlization offered a fairly scant selection of average to poor DIY action figures. A little further investigation however, resulted in something far more interesting. News straight from the shiny Tank Girl Website Blog. The announcement of an official Tank Girl Figurine in the middle of last year. The figurine will be made by THREE A Toys based on the original Jamie Hewlett (of Gorillaz fame) design and was pegged for a Christmas 2010 release, with more TankGirl-verse characters to follow.

Unfortunately the release date has come and gone without a Tank girl figurine!? The product is still on the way I am assured, they’re just making it extra specially perfect. I’ve got to say this is pretty exciting stuff, a couple of years ago I tried to find info about my childhood heroine online and was very disappointed to find a shitty, unkempt page as the foremost receptacle of all thing Tank Girl. To now see new comics released regularly, a slick site + blog and new merch in the form of figurines and spiffing apparel. It would seem Tank Girl might be making a much deserved return to glory.

I can personally attest to the spiffing-ness of the Parinto Tank Girl apparel, the shirt is comfortable cotton, with a spectacular design and is satisfyingly resistant to cider and vegetarian curry stains.

Our parallel thinking friends from institutes in Sweden, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland have begun development mass production of millions* of simple, ant sized robots. Perfect for destroying picnics and the precise application of hundreds and thousands to fairy bread & patty cakes everywhere.

The concept is a reverse of the typically complex singular robotics around currently the belief being that thousands of simple minute robots can work together to complete complicated goals.

To be perfectly honest I can’t wait for faux insects that are less itchy and easier to train.
